Tip:

The Escape uses Scarpa's "DL" last. This is a much roomier fit than other Scarpa models. Width is best for wider feet(D or E), with a roomy toebox. Medium to high volume.

Purchased these boots last year. I found them to be a great boot. The insole was made for someone with flat feet, so I ripped them out and put in an arched insole. Nice rigid base for hiking or backpacking. The boots can hold you up, when you can't hold yourself up. Kept my feet warm during Winter hiking. They are completely waterproof. The tongue goes all the way up to the top to keep water out. You can walk thru water up to the top without a problem. Has a nice lace locking mid-way up the lacing to keep the fit perfect. I questioned the leather, but it held up very well. Much better then smooth leather. Most rubber rands cause problems, and will cause the leather to split at the joint. That was not the case with these boots. The Vibram outer soles are awesome. They stick like glue to roc..

I purchased these last year, and found that they fit my wide feet. The next thing I noticed is that they have great rocker. As you walk, they seem to facilitate forward progress in a beautiful way. When I walk across our kitchen floor, they are very quiet due to this. No Ka-wop Ka-wop with each step. There has been an issue with the insoles not holding up. I blew a hole right through one the first outing. Also, there has been some sliding up and down causing abrasion to the sides of my achilles tendon area. Seems I can't get the heel locked down good enough, but hoping this will change with more break in. I took them up into the Olympics in the snow and rain with no discomfort.
