If you cried over the loss of the Karhu 10th Mountain Tour, dry your tears and warm up the waxing iron. The Madshus Epoch is the same ski...only better. Crazy Norwegian graphics, but Madshus definitely upgraded the base finish. If you don't know what the 10th Mtn Tour/Epoch is all about, and you are still backcountry ski touring on long skinny skis, you need an upgrade. Once you have gone short and fat, you will never go back. Stable, great flotation, easy to maneuver, excellent climbing...and they turn! Guaranteed backcountry fun, you just have to get used to the crazy Norwegian graphics.
