Something old, something new. The Montrail Mountain Masochist is a tried and true shoe design for trail running and fast hiking, and is now back to leading the design field with the addition of OutDry technology. Waterproof/breathable trail running shoes using waterproof "bootie" construction have often been desirable, but also often suffered some performance flaws compared to their non-waterproof siblings.
Traditional bootie construction allows water and debris to become trapped between the outer material and inner bootie. With OutDry, the membrane is bonded directly to the outer material. There is no hollow space for water and debris to gather so shoes remain lightweight in all conditions. Run and fast hike through the wet months with puddle-stomping glee.
