Wedges just might become standard issue for skate skis. The Salomon Wedge 60 lifts your binding toe up about 5mm, and thins down towards the heel. While there is no definitive reason why they seem to increase glide speed, the hypothesis is that the wedge resolves the dilemma of binding location.
Traditional balance point gives great all-around performance, balancing glide speed with stability and downhill control
Mounting bindings farther back than balance point often increases glide speed, especially in soft tracks. The down side is a loss of stability
The Wedge seems to offer a compromise, increasing glide speed while maintaining stability
The Wedge 60 also has "wings" that project out from the sides, to create a wider platform for the boot/binding interface
Longer screws are included to account for the thicker front portion of the wedge. Wedge is placed between the ski and the binding
Designed only for skate skis
